Birthday Photos

Let the party begin! Starting with first thing in the morning, Evan got to see the Balloons and stuffed Lion that "Aunt Lo Lo" sent him from Virginia. Thank you Loretta, do you think he had fun with his balloons? ;) (see video at the bottom)

Had his One year check up on his birthday, first thing in the morning ;(. Here he is getting a shot, poor guy.

Everything was fine a few minutes later and still loves daddy.

Getting ready for the singing and cake eating. ;)

Mom and Dad helping Evan 'blow' the candles out. He hasn't mastered that yet. ;)

Mom made a birthday hat for each of my parties, it turned like this so I look like peter pan now. lol

mmmm cake.

Do you think he loves his Ikea hippo from mom and dad?...

Opening mom and dad's gift...it looks big!

Evan's in his car walker, in 'park', so he'd stay in one place during the festivities.

The guests: :) Brooke, Nanci, Lauren, Daddy, Matt, G. Jennie, Papa George

Opening the plane.... love the propellers!

I love my School bus from the Matt Stuteville's!

It was pretty hard for everyone to put this Ikea 'barn with animals' together while the party was going but Mommy is very good with directions and figured it out later. Here's a picture of Grandparents willing to do anything to make their grandson happy. "A" for effort! ;)

ONE YEAR!

For now all my pictures I've taken in the past few days, disappeared but here is a video of Evan eating his cake. He is very methodical! ;)

22 lbs 14 oz

31 inches tall

No more formula

Eats a little of whatever we are eating basically.

LOVES to knock over stacked blocks

Goes fast in his walker (especially at the gym at church when mom gives him a push!)

Climbs up on everything and will pull himself up on anything he can reach, bringing his feet off the ground. He's been doing this for a few months.

Does 'the face' that he made up, on command and I don't even have to give him a treat (like smokey doing his tricks) LOL. ;)

Loves mommy's hair, daddy's chest hair and goatee.

Will attempt to clap along to 'Pat a cake' and hand gestures to 'The wheels on the Bus'

Loves all his new toys, especially his Plane from Grandma Jennie/Papa George, Guitar from the Pinargote's and rowing Monkey from Donna and Cammie's Family.

Carries his 'Little People' with him everywhere he crawls.

Seems to like grass now (if it would only stop raining here, he could enjoy it)

Had fun at the parks jungle gym, 'hanging', sliding, climbing and repeat.

Best friend is still Hayden and Liz but is willing to branch out to more friends now. He didn't notice them before but now he's interested.

Still doesn't love sitting still. He would rather be on the ground, crawling or playing then on your hip.

Looking forward to going to the beach again! ;)

THIS MOMENT

You were born exactly 1 year ago today, this moment, this minute. We will never forget this feeling...

On October 14th, 2008 we were called by Hannah at 130am to tell us you were coming... Two weeks early! We left Tennessee at 330am (NO SLEEP since the night of the 12th and after a full day of work for both mommy and daddy) bound for Atlanta, more specifically, Marietta Georgia. As we drove, I tried to sleep a little but was WAY too excited/scared/nervous so I more 'rested'. We talked about the fact that in the next few hours we would finally be parents, 9 1/2 years after our parental journey began in 1999. We had just met Courtney (who also goes by Brooke) 2 weeks before and felt a strong bond with her instantly, as if we were having a reunion instead of meeting the first time. She very much felt the same. We wondered how she was doing, now in labor with you and prayed the whole 3 1/2 hour drive that you and she would be ok through the labor AND hoped we'd make it in time to see you be born (as was her wish that we be in the labor room). We got there at about 8 or 830am (eastern time) and you waited for us! Courtney was exhausted from being in labor all night so she was in and out of sleep while 'Charmed' blared from the T.V. and the temperature was set to FRIGID for her comfort. ;) We took a few pictures of Courtney in labor as I held her hand before things really picked up. The time flew. Even though we had been there for an hour or so, it seemed like only moments before it was time for you to be born so we got ready... I was on Courtney's left, holding her hand and talking calmly in her ear to push and counted to 10 during her contractions. After no epidural and a few big pushes we could see the top of your head! I couldn't believe it. Your hair looked a little dark and curly. A few more pushes and your exhausted birth mommy pushed you out! She was tired but excited for us. She looked at me and said "Your Son! Your son is here" and cried. She called to Michael who was sitting behind me and told him to come see his 'son'. It was a blur of Michael cutting your umbilical cord and being whisked over to see you cleaned off, measured and weighed. I didn't know what to do. I felt an obligation to Courtney to not just snatch you and run but also I felt no right to you yet as you had just come from her body and who am I but a willing woman to be your mother. I finally took my camera out and captured the moment:

My bond to you began. They asked me to cut your cord also (the one close to where your belly button would be later). We were whisked away again, this time in the room next door to Courtney where you were swaddled, placed in our arms and told to feed you. We didn't know what to think. You were crying and new and strange. We had never done this before and smiled at your cries for lack of anything else to do. We prayed silent prayers of thanks that you were here and healthy and continued to pray for Courtney on the other side of the wall. We politely took turns holding you, staring at you, hugging you, memorizing you (in case someone took you back), opening our heart to you and imagining the life we could give you, if this was real.

We were requested by Courtney to come see her. Originally she told us that she heard it might be better for her if she didn't hold you so she wouldn't bond with you. She prayed to know that she was doing the right thing to place you for adoption and she prayed to know if we were your parents and she didn't want to take that away from us. As we entered her room, I was pulled in by the love we shared with each other and with YOU, Evan Robert Stuteville. I said, "Wouldn't you like to hold him?" She said yes and took you in her arms. There were tears of love and awe from both of us. I was so glad she wanted to hold you and wasn't afraid. She said "You are a miracle, I created a miracle!" and smiled at Mike and I, proud that Evan was ours. She soon gave you back so she could rest and sleep finally and we were able to watch you get your first sponge bath.

This first day was so overwhelming with newness. We didn't know where to go, what to do and barely what our names where. We were exhausted too. You were taken to the nursery where we held you some more and started our dreams for you.

You are our dream come true. I have dreamed of you for many years. Your daddy thought he might like a baby but I know he had no idea that he would LOVE you so much. As all parents do, we hope you will reach for every star you see, capture it and let it shine out for your good and the good of those who cross your path. We pray you will have integrity, love God and Jesus Christ, be educated academically and socially. We already know you are beautiful on the outside, very funny on the inside and we cannot wait to see all the adventures you will go on, alone, with us and with any/all the siblings we hope to bless you with in the future. You are the first so you represent the hopes and dreams we have for all the children welcomed in our home. We love you babe. Thank you for choosing us in heaven, we will try to be worthy of being your parents or parents at all. We love you!

Sincerely, Momma and Dadda

First and Second of Three Birthday Parties!

Today we had Evan's kid party and Birthday "Social". It was very casual and fun to see everyone that came. There wasn't that many but still I felt like I didnt' get to visit with everyone as much as I would have liked. Sorry guys! So... For the first hour, we had a little bitty kids party with 4 of his friends from church, 2 boys, 2 girls. We sang to Evan and had cake, which he loved of course. We visited and played. Michael got back from taking our friends, Josh, Lacey and Lincoln to the airport just in time for round 2, the group social where we played bocce, few a kite, talked ate more cake and talked some more. Evan had a lot of fun with his friends and would have liked it a lot better if the weather wasn't so cold, wet or windy so they could have got out in the grass together and rolled around. Also, he decided it was nap time when it all began so finally at around 2 he took a 30 or so minute nap. We are now exhausted and hope we get a great Sunday afternoon nap tomorrow! Enjoy the few pictures I was able to take! Next party is Wednesday on his actual birthday. More partying to be had....

Said good bye to our friends the Smiths, visiting from Texas (more on another post) and....

Off to decorate for the party! When I got there it was soOO cold and windy that I couldn't keep anything tied down. Michael had to take our friends to the airport so I attempted setting up alone. I won't attempt that again. ;)

Here's a view of my handmade 'banner' (triangle thing) and paper chain that has fallen to the ground. wah wah wah...

Kids party Guest: Simon with his Daddy and Charity in front of her daddy who's head is missing.

The kids cake was a mummy head in the middle part (the picture at Sam's was more defined, oh well, what can you do) surrounded by cupcakes, YUM! Thanks Sam's for $9.98! lol

I made his birthday hat from the sunday funny papers. ;)

Mom 'helped' Evan blow out the candle. He looks terrified! Hayden is on the left (tried to help but it was a little 'wet', lol) and Annabelle (Evan's Halloween Date) is on the right with her aunt Heather.

Big kids cake. Isn't it so cute!? I love the Fall!

new craft on my 'other' blog....

I have some faithful blog followers, friends and fellow baby boy friends. Parents of Serif. I made Serif's birthday gift today. I got the idea Saturday and conceptualized it. Today while watching LDS General Conference, I made it! I love how it turned out and they will too. As I mentioned, they are faithful blog followers so I know they will see this. If you don't want to see it Jeff and Michelle, don't click on this link. If you want to see his birthday present early, click away!!! ;)

i have a stalker.... :)

serif + sock monkey

ahhh sweet serif. ;) today i got to give evan's friend serif (2 weeks younger than evan) his first haircut! what an honor. his mommy and daddy brought him all the way from nashville for it. whew! we had a little time to play together afterwards to show each other how big we've gotten and all the new stuff we can do now, like "standing". he he. When it was time for the family to trek back to nashville, they sneaked out to their car for a birthday gift for evan. WE LOVE OUR SOCK MONKEY! we were green with envy when we saw serif's monkey on their family blog and we're so happy that evan will get one too now. he is very mischievous! lol.

THANK YOU for evan's first official birthday gift and it is the coolest just like you J+M=S! You are the bestest!

Blue Steele

I am determined to get a better picture of this face that Evan has been making. It is so hilarious. If I'm really lucky, I will get it recorded on a video for you all.

About 2 weeks ago, out of nowhere, while talking to him, he put this scowl on his face and slowly bowed his head while maintaining eye contact. Almost a look of disapproval but then he breaks his serious face and starts laughing! He is THE cutest kid EVER!!! ;) lol. It is so much fun to see him act 'tweeky'. One of the few things that worried me about adoption was the sadness that my child would not have my families 'tweeky' personality possibly. As you can see, he was given to us so I could have a 'tweeky' baby. Thank you God! I love my tweeky baby! ;)

sick day ;(

evan is sick for the first time. ;( he started with a fever last night of 102.0 so he got tylenol & a cool bath & very willing for bed before 8pm usual. (730) at 1230a he started crying so I decided it was time for more tylenol. as soon as I gave it to him, he barfed everywhere. poor guy! time for bath two, cuddles & back to bed. he didn't wake up till 11am. he had a 102.5 temp this a.m. had motrine & formula then back to bed. so... we've had a cuddly but sick baby day off. i'm happy to report his temp is down to 101.7 now ;) end of sick report. ;)

This message has been sent using the picture and Video service from Verizon Wireless!

UPDATE 9-25-09: So it looks like Evan was TEETHING! crazy! I had not heard of a baby with that high of a fever till we experienced it ourself. The reason his fever went down was because i finally realized it could really be teething and started be more vigilant with our Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets. It immediately helped and we are even more supporters of the product. He woke up yesterday as if nothing had happened and this morning woke up in THE BEST mood! ;) we are greatful he is not sick and doesn't have swine flu or anything like that (which is in our area). Thank you for all your well wishes. Evan says thank you! ;)

Evan's Birthday Party

Evan's first birthday is October 14th! YIKES. In celebration of this day we are taking another shot at the group celebration idea. We really want to celebrate having such a blessing in our life and hope all of our friends will join us the Saturday before. Please come and bring your family and/friends. Well... if you will remember the fiasco of the weather raining us out of our first planned 'picnic' back in May, please put it from your mind. Not possible this time! We have rented a pavilion at a different location and have a grass area for lawn games! (weather permitting) So wear your best party clothes and come with your family. There will be yummy cake, water and punch. Feel free to bring a picnic for yourself and family as there are tons of tables and as mentioned grass surrounding. Also, feel free to bring a lawn game. We are hoping to bring Croquet, Bocce, Horseshoes, Frisbee...???

WHEN: Saturday October 10th

TIME: 2pm -4pm

PLACE: let me know if you want to come at THIS email address:

www.lilaandmichael@yahoo.com and I will email the location.

no gifts necessary besides your presence. ;)

So, we look forward to seeing you and visiting with you. We love you!!!

Love, Michael, Lila and Evan ;)
